POTES makes scenario analysis tools available for online use. The tools managed by POTES are well-documented and market-ready. POTES ensures continued development, manages maintenance, and makes everything available open source.
Substantiating the public debate
A healthy democratic debate needs reliable facts. The tools of the POTES Foundation, such as the Energy Transition Model (ETM), provide a basis for substantiating this debate and making it more concrete.
Connecting perspectives
POTES aims to connect stakeholders as a platform to enable a shared discussion. For example, with the Energy Transition Model they can share their visions of the future with one another or build upon each other’s input.
Education and public debate
The platforms is used to publicly share prominent energy transition scenarios online. POTES is committed to enriching the public debate in a values-neutral way by clarifying the most important insights, choices and dependencies in such scenarios.
A shared way of working
Together with the community of users and developers, POTES standardises working methods around energy system scenario analysis. This allows future visions for different geographical levels, sectors or energy chains to align more closely with one another. Naturally, other domains such as space, infrastructure, raw materials and markets are also relevant here.
The POTES Foundation manages and oversees renewal of the Energy Transition Model
With a subsidy grant from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (formerly KGG) and financial support from Netbeheer Nederland, POTES is renewing the technical foundation of the Energy Transition Model (ETM) over the next 4 years — without users noticing a thing. It will remain open source, free and readily available. Any expansion of the ETM with new functionalities will continue alongside the renewal of the technical foundation.
